The restaurant Shopsin's General Store is distinguished by its gloriously terrible menu design. To take the menu's awful appeal to another level, I redesigned it to surprise-attack the customer both visually and physically.
The menu crumples to a paper ball that can be thrown at customers. From the exterior of the ball the restaurant's rules can be glimpsed, warning off those unready for Shopsin's. The ball then unfolds to an enormous white page with the menu's poems and rules, where the customer pauses to read. When they turn the page over to view the menu items, they are unprepared by the sudden visual assault of layered text of all sizes going in all directions. The contrast between the two sides of the menu is intended to create surprise.
